Ad-hoc is what I primarily want to experiment with because of its fast recovery from network drop outs.

Ad-hoc networks simply send out a packet at full power to other participants who can decode it. If another station in RF range hears a packet for itself, it can then act on the contents.

Future experiments include using multicast and UDP, and if WiFi can be used as a one way system, a high powered trasnmitter could be used and clients need not able to communicate back to receive traffic.
